Experience
Andrew Webster’s career represents a
combination of private and public-sector experience, volunteerism,
international experiences and small-town entrepreneurism.
Andrew earned a marketing degree, and
later a master’s degree in International Management from the
University of St. Thomas. Between those years in college, he served in
Peace Corps, teaching business skills in the Dominican Republic. He
returned to work in the Lake City-based family business, Wild Wings,
acting as National and International Sales Manager.
He later worked for other Lake City
businesses, including Lake City Medical Center-Mayo Health Systems. In
2006 he established his own firm, Necessary Complications, providing
business consulting to firms around the region.
Serving the Lake City community
In addition to his business career,
Andrew is involved in local organizations, boards
and commissions that work to make Lake City a better place. They
include:
- Lake City Planning Commission,
2006-Present (Elected chair)
- Lake City Utility Board, 2002-2006
(Elected chair)
- Lake City Rotary Club (President,
2006-07)
- Lake City Kiwanis
- Chart the Course Committees
- St. Mary’s Church Council
- Villa Maria Board of Directors
Bringing people together
One of Andrew’s strengths is his
ability to focus on an issue, identify people that should be included
and bring them together to find common-sense solutions.
That was never more evident than on
the Lake City Utility Board, when he spearheaded the effort that
resulted in SMMPA, Xcel and Lake City tackling Lake City’s power
problems.
The results were immediate
improvements and an agreement for a new transmission line that’s
coming into service right now.
“The mayor’s job is to make sure
important conversations like this take place,” Andrew said.
“Nothing great can happen without
clear communication, and someone to facilitate the conversation. We
can take this same approach to tackle all the challenges facing Lake
City.”
