Issues & Priorities
Running Council
Meetings
“I’ll immediately restore a
productive environment on the City Council. While we still need
vigorous debate, we’ll do it in an atmosphere of respect and dignity,
allowing us to move forward to tackle the next issue."
Preservation
“There are a number of unique
features that make Lake City great – the vista, our lakeshore areas
and the historic architecture of the town. We need to preserve our character and make certain any
future development respects and maintains our heritage.”
The Economic
Development Association
“The EDA is a fundamental tool in
securing better jobs and a stronger economy for the city. I’ll ask the
city council and EDA to work even closer, with openness and
transparency as core values. I’m a proponent of a strong, vital EDA,
and I’ll make it a priority to strengthen its mission and
effectiveness.”
Communication
“The mayor has an important role to
play in making certain every part of city government is working
together. Instead of relying on memos and resolutions to communicate,
we should have more joint meetings and conversations to share
information in new and more productive ways. As mayor, I’ll make
certain the council and the various boards and commissions have open
lines of communication that help us better serve the taxpayers.”
Managing the City
"If you have good people in place,
let them do their jobs. Micro management is unfair, and builds
distrust."
The City Budget
“I’m fiscally conservative, with
years of experience in financial forecasting and budgeting. We should
keep taxes low through efficient city services - but without
over-borrowing. The council should keep a close eye on the city budget
without micro-managing, working together with city staff.”
Zoning
"We have good zoning codes in the
city right now, we just need to do a better job of enforcing them.”
The Role of the Mayor
“The mayor needs to be an upbeat,
vibrant ambassador for the city. They need to use their role on the
city council to build consensus and keep things moving forward. Most
importantly, they should listen first, and then come to a decision.
It’s important for a mayor to remember they’re a public servant,
working on behalf of the residents of the city.”
